Ringing In the New Year

 Lucy is finally potty trained.
So it's now time for her to learn how to tell me that she wants to go outside.
BF never, ever thought she could learn this. In fact he made fun of my idea...
I hung this up early yesterday morning...before everyone got here for our Christmas get-together.
She loves it...like now she has control over going outside.  Like it's all her idea.
I hear that little bell ring all the time and go running to the door to let her out. Sometimes she just wants to go out and play for awhile...that's OK too!!!
BF is in shock.
I'm delighted!

Talk about Skinner's Box meets Pavlov's dog! Love the idea and she seem to be a very bright girl. If nothing else, it will be a great conversation item ;-)

Way to go Lucy!

Ana, Isn't she a hoot???

Fly, BF can't believe this! Because it's taken her so long to get housebroken, he thought she was dumb. Noooo, she's just stubborn and busy playing.

Rubye, OOoh Rubye, how was your Christmas??? Good to hear from you.

what a great idea!

Ellen, I had heard that it was easy to train pups to do this, but had no idea it would only take one day.

You are my hero. What a brilliant idea. I'm always amazed at animals learning ability and more amazed at the trainer patience. Have you ever seen Beverly Hills Chihuahua? Now there is 2,3, and maybe 4. Always hokey stories but those little dogs are soooo adorable. I always think of the patience it must have taken to train so many of them. Chihuahua has always been my favorite dog. I've had 3 of them and my last one died at age 16 just 2 years ago. I wanted another and then Cody was a rescue dog and I couldn't refuse. You know how it goes.
Love from Manzanita

Manz, I have always loved chihuahuas too. My last one (LD) was about 16/17 when he passed. He was very typical...bad to the bone! My son has one now and she rules that household. They are funny lil ones!

Oh sooo cute :) We also have a bell by the back door for Emma. This was a training trick I picked up on my sister's advice and it sure didn't take long once we'd hung it. Certainly makes a world of difference once they're trained!

Hope your hand's feeling better.

Linda, It was so easy for her to learn this. ...and so cute!

Jane, Cast comes off tomorrow...whew!!! I'm so tired of it. I may get a splint, but at least this heavy cast is off for sure.

That is such a great idea,,, we did that with our dog. Only draw back was when the bell swung back it hit the side of the wall and eventually, knocked part of the wall board out... something else that needed repair.. Now, our dog has his own dog door, and also tells us with a short bark that he needs to go out.. Puppies are so much work, but lots of love! Happy New Year.
