Mushroom Accident

Do these look dangerous?
All week I had been looking forward to Friday dinner out with the girls...Chinese Buffet.
We all met there and, knowing the routine, we didn't bother to sit down. We placed our drink order and headed directly to the yummy food area of choice. Me, well I like the Mongolian grill part...for starters!
Laughing and walking all of a sudden, I found myself on the floor, looking up. I had slipped on a stuffed mushroom that had apparently fallen off someones plate and I went down .. hard.  I tried to muster up some dignity as I hustled to get up, off the floor.
My little finger? ... hmmm ...that looks weird.
The manager cleaned up the mushroom mess and later offered me my meal free...
My hand started swelling and turning that greenish color and I knew...but I continued eating my free meal.
Later, the emergency room nurses laughed...slipped on a mushroom??? hahaha....
The doctor asked, "Am I reading this correctly? Slipped on a mushroom? Hahaha...your hand is broken!"
Yep, my little finger is fine, but I broke a bone in my hand. I now sit typing with one finger.
My cast starts just below my elbow, with only fingertips showing.
I just took a pain pill...back to bed...later I'll meditate.
Life can sure change in an instant and something, as small as a mushroom, can cause it...
Take care...a full moon tonight.
ommm

Dang, that is awful and sounds painful. I'm sure the restaurant will at least pay your Dr. bill.
The difference between us and the rest is that when we fall, we are imbarrassed and hurry to get up before anyone sees us. Others look around for witnesses.
Take care and heal soon.

oh wow, I never knew mushrooms could be so dangerous! Rather brave of you to finish your meal before heading to the hospital, hope you're healing well! xx

Oh, boy. My mother used to tell me to be careful about mushrooms. But what happened to you is not what she meant!

I'm so sorry TMoon. That sucks and there is no humor anywhere here.

Our society loves to watch people getting hurt. That is sick to me. Many of those would think your fall involving a mushroom to be special funny. ha ha

Heal quick!

Ouch, i hope it heals well. There is Dragon Speaking to type with just a voice. I type mostly with one finger on each hand anyway.

Oh no!!!! A mushroom? Wow, I guess they would be kind of slippery when they're cooked.

So sorry to hear about YOUR fall. Must be something in the air.

The swelling and bruising in my face is starting to subside. I have a one-week followup with the maxillofacial surgeon on Monday. (See my blog: "I Broke My Face.")

With your calm, cool center, I know you'll heal quickly. My thoughts are with you.

Well, I hope you at least ate some of those mushrooms as they do look good.

I was a river guide for about 10 years and every time I would go off on a trip my husband would admonish me to watch my hands. In other words, don't break any bones because as a working artist, I need them intact. the arthritis in my thumbs is bad enough.

Well, hope yours heals up fast.

Sorry to hear about this, and yes, life can and does change in an instant.

Go see an injury lawyer. You have a lawsuit against the restaurant for failing to keep hazards off the floor. Seriously. A free meal doesn't cut it. The pain and inconvenience of a broken finger should be properly compensated and the lawsuit is sure to be settled rather than going to trial.

What a bummer! I don't know how you could stand to stay and eat afterwards - it sounds like it would hurt so badly. Maybe some different pain pills? I'm glad it wasn't any worse, and hope it stops hurting soon. Take care.

Wow, life can change in a minute and you are proof of it. Of course it probably was the hand that you write with? Lets see - what can you do with one hand? -- barbara

Let's see my last fall was stepping backwards off a curb while diligently trying to get just the right shot on Skyline Drive in Virginia. Had to go to a day clinic to be sure my collar bone was not broken.

I have fallen over the dogs toys, slipped on grape skins, and just about every conceivable method still unknown to man.

Well being older falls seem to be more frequent. I have taken pretty good tumbles on two vacations and at home. Fortunately only my pride has been broken.

I will be posting about one fall in a future blog.

The most mortifying part is telling paramedical personnel what happened.
