Slooow Action

T Ball...a chance to try some action photography.
Geez...action is hard. I probably took some 20 pics of grandson hitting the ball and running to first.  He wasn't in any of them except these two pictures.
I took a class in action photography. Good thing my first attempt was at a tee ball game. A game with 5 year olds who are not in fast action, no matter how fast they think they are.
My photography instructor gave us all sorts of camera tips, like shutter speed, etc. But one thing he said still stands out. He's been a professional photographer for 20something years and still doesn't have "that" picture. That one for Sports Illustrated.
Well tonight is another game. I will check all my camera settings, get there early to test lighting and take a few pics before the game starts.
It's going to be very hot again in the KC area. It was 103 yesterday and the same is predicted for today.  Grandson is coming home with us to spend a few days...  We will probably stop for ice cream on the way home from the game. That might make for a great action shot...eating the ice cream before it melts.
ommmm

T Ball - this sure brings back memories. I haven't thought of it in years. I've never even attempted any action shots. I think that second shot is great! An ice cream melting photo shoot is about my speed: easier - & tastier :)

Linda, Thanks. I had about 20 pics with maybe a hand or a foot in them. I have a great respect for action photographers...

Jane, I really must try to get some pics of him and grandpa eating ice cream together tonight.

Fun shots, I always held my breath when my kids were up to bat

Fly, I sure hope so...??? I sound like a pro when the camera goes click, click, click... but then I look at the pics and nothing's there??? just gotta laugh.

Debra, He's so funny! They're all so funny at the game. There's one little girl I call a fashionista. She ties her shirt on the side...too cute.

Steve, I just laugh. At this age, none of them are good. The ball goes thru their feet, they forget where to throw the ball, get sidetracked watching butterflies??? just too funny...

When you click on these and make them bigger they become very good pictures in my opinion.

Fly, They're ok, but thanks. I like the first one because it shows his concentration on trying to hit that ball.

I think those are great and he is adorable. T-ball is such fun to watch.
Digital is wonderful. We can shoot and practice till we get it right.

Yellowdog, It's pretty big up here too! I want that recipe you posted today... that looked so yummy!

Patti, I love digital! ...and yes, I take tons just to get a few good ones. T-ball is a hoot.

You certainly are persistent and I bet you will get it right. I am still practicing with the dioptors for macros.

When I took a class on action, a technique called "panning" was taught, too. It reminded me of taking movies. and yes you had to you a slow lense speed, etc.

NitWit, Oooh yes...I forgot about panning. I will re-read about that. Thanks for the tip!!!

Linda, Oooh it's so much fun. July 4th, they're having a nighttime photography class. We meet at Ritz Camera for instruction, then all go to the mall to try to do fireworks. BF is always asleep right after supper, so I'm out the door with camera and tripod in hand. It's awfully hot here. It's 10:30pm and still 96 degrees... :(

Barbara, Ooh I had him play in a water sprinkler today and tried more action. UGH! I'm not posting any of them...
